The U.S. has lagged behind the eight ball with QR Codes, while their use has flourished from Japan (where it was first developed in 1994) to Brazil. The time is now for digital marketing integration involving QR codes and mobile marketing.
Think I am kidding? Look at a commercial in Japan. Though I took the University of Kentucky Women’s basketball team to Japan in 1981, 82 & 83 when I coached at UK (and learned some Japanese), I honestly cannot understand anything except the fact that the video has over 600,000 views! That’s all I need to understand about the viability of QR Codes! The Japanese must already understand something about QR Codes that we don’t!

“To tri or not to tri: that is the question,” said Dotti Berry (from Trek Women Triathlon Series).
Yes, I made the decision to tri. My friend, Sheldon, who has ALS and Sally Edwards, the legendary triathlon icon, both inspired Roby and me through the manner in which they approach life.
You can “try” or you can “tri.” People get the two confused.
The way it seems most people refer to “try” is via the following dictionary definition:
v. to make an effort or attempt: he tried to climb a cliff
I don’t know what you believe, but in the above scenario, the person either climbed a cliff…or he didn’t.
True Story: I had a person hand me a salt shaker one time and say, “Try to move that salt shaker across the table.” I picked it up and moved it to the other side. He said, “No, I said ‘try” to move it.” So, I held it, making great effort to hold on to it before finally moving it. He looked at me and said, “In life, you either do something or you don’t. Trying is an illusion.” That lesson stuck with me.
People often confuse success with lots of effort. Ironically, the opposite is often true.
Extra energy expended is often detrimental. Think I am kidding?
Think about Michael Jordan. Think about other world class athletes. Their movements are fluid and efficient.
The key to success, whether in sports or business, is eliminating extra and unnecessary effort, movement and energy. It is refining the behaviors and actions so that processes and systems are as efficient as possible.
You can “try” to complete a tri, but in the end result, you either complete it or you don’t.
And that is why completing a tri has everything to do with business success…if you understand the connection.
You either make the calls you need to make…or you don’t.
You either follow up…or you don’t.
You can “try to succeed” in business; however, you either succeed or you don’t. Assume 100% responsibility for either achieving business success or not achieving business success, without blaming others when you fail. This will enable you to refine those skills, behaviors and actions which lead to increased success the next time.
Tri it…you’ll like it!

I was listening to Bill Rowland speak this morning about the future of mobile media and the beginning of a technology curve. . He sold his last company 2 years ago for $108 Million. His remarks are great reminders and offer profound insights, connecting with me on a cellular level.
If you want to manage someone, learn to manage yourself. People aren’t drawn to authority, they’re drawn to leadership. A leader leads by example.

Create YOUR Vision Board the Law of Attraction. You can make it offline/online…I’m a both/and person vs. an either/or. Why act like one way is better when both work! Decide which method best resonates with you.

I am asking myself this question as Roby & I “revamp” our Vision Board. It’s worth repeating…
Does your VISION have the Midas Touch?
Why ask this question? First of all, Your Vision...envisioned through your Vision Board illustrates your Vision Biography and is a part of your master business plan. Like a business plan, it is not static…it is ever changing and evolving. Our desires don’t remain the same. I am not the same person today that I was yesterday. Being personally in the midst of this process right now, I know that I want it to have the Midas Touch...I want it to be the set of wheels on my vehicle that takes me to my ultimate, massive financial freedom… affording me the options and flexibility I desire. I will forewarn you that this process does not come without a certain amount of angst. That will only continue, however, if you resist the inevitable chaos vs. embracing it in order to move through more easily and naturally in this process. If you feel overwhelmed, check out this prior blog post about how quantum physics can help you create your dreams. It gives you a framework for moving through your personal chaos!
So…here’s how you begin the process of envisioning and creating an offline Vision Board (meaning it is a physical one that you can touch and feel vs digital one) with the Midas Touch over a several week period. You will discover that you begin attracting some of what you envision IMMEDIATELY!
- MULL – Seriously contemplate your desires…both personal and business. Go through magazines and cut out anything that jumps out at you. This is an organic process. Do not censor at this point. Just cut and throw it in a big bucket or box with a lid (you’ve heard of a bucket list from the movie of the same name…that’s what you are creating!)
- INVESTIGATE – Imagine examining your desires & dreams under a microscope. It’s now time to pull those magazine dream catchers out of the big bucket. Allow this to be an evolving process. I suggest you do this investigative process on a different day than you do your “mulling” involved in the initial step. Analyze your desires, see them in your mind and then sit quietly with them to determine if they resonate with your core values. Take those that fit and throw them into a second big bucket. Don’t fret if several from bucket one just don’t “feel right,” after this investigation. That’s why you are doing it. Nothing goes in bucket #2 that you do not want to (at this point!) add it to your Vision Board. Remember…this is YOUR Vision Board. Don’t add something just because some hot shot guru added it to his or her board. You are unique! Live by it.
- DEVISE - Conceive, plan & design how you want to put together the pieces of your Vision Board to sync with the core of who you are – You can do it by sections. Again, use another day for this process. Pull the pictures and words out of the second bucket. Spread them around on the floor. This isn’t a race. This is about creating a Vision from which you will make your choices. You can add your Vision Statement (some call it a Mission Statement). Our middle section of our Vision Board is like our own middle of our body. It is a core foundation of who we are. It must provide a strong foundation. It represents our spiritual center, although that part also overflows to the left third bottom (as you are looking at the board below) while our real estate dreams are at the left third top. That is one of our properties. Some of these living words such as “DANCE” (something we do with one another each day before going to bed) are also a part of our spiritual core and connection.
- ACHIEVE - Ponder how you intend to bring about the results of your Vision. This is where you can now move to your Business Plan and start writing your detailed goals….ah, another post will have to give the outline for that plan.
- STRENGTHEN – This is where you continue to “erase and replace” pieces of your Vision that you no longer feel are empowering you. Remember, this is about evolving, not remaining static! Remove any part at any time. Once a quarter, give your Vision Board a good 2-3 hour session and overhaul. During the first week of the new year, devote an entire day to mulling, investigating, devising, achieving and strengthening so that you are fully prepared for being all that you can be in a new year!
Our Vision Board is a tri-fold one on black foam core. You are looking at it unfolded. Its normal full-time spot is one where it sits unfolded on top of the filing cabinet in our office so that we see it on a daily basis. I like the aspect of literally unfolding our Vision Board and placing it on our counter top. There is something organic about unfolding the board…perhaps it is analogous to the unfolding of our dreams. It also allows me to view the back. The entire front and back doesn’t have to be completed initially. Leave some open space into which you can grow. We started with the front and expanded to the back, Mulling, Investigating, Devising, Achieving, & Strengthening. The central picture on the back of the Vision Board is shown in this short video below. It about the connections between all of us…connecting and engaging…a central theme to my life! May it inspire you to Reach…Awaken2Life & Create Your Dreams!

Although our dreams contain some “things,” they don’t make it to our Vision Bucket List unless they equate to awesome experiences and resonate with our core. We already live in the home of our dreams. You’re probably thinking BIG, huh? No…just the opposite. SMALL…a dream of 1150 square feet with a sun room across the back leading to a deck with a hot tub with electric awning (yea…it rains a little in the Pacific NW, but not as much as people think…we rank 36th in the country in rainfall), look out over English gardens and a pond with Canadian geese, ducks and blue herons. It’s a healing energy place that also has a 400 foot cottage for friends and my coaching clients…both individuals and couples…who come for “Coach B’s Tune-Up” week-ends or weeks. (One 80 year-old retired executive from Texas who wanted to learn about internet marketing actually rented for a month and got his coaching!).
Yes, we’re into small. We took a year-long journey across America pulling a 13 foot trailer with an intention to engage hearts and minds, create authentic connections and transcend differences that separate us. Life was simple, and we loved it. We haven’t forgotten that journey and why we liked it!
Speaking of Small…I was at the Olympics in BC and saw something soooo small I had to contact the architect (who turns out to be from South Africa originally). We will be going up to meet with him in May to see about potentially securing the rights to market it in the United States. DREAM BIG!

I say to people “I wake up every day and hope I hear ‘NO!’ “ People reply, “Are you nuts?” Well..perhaps. But..I say to them, “I know that if I am willing to hear ‘NO,’ I will reach my destination and hear ‘YES!’
My friend, Cathy Buchanan, sent me the link to this 3 minute video called Go For NO 3 minute video. Now, the way I figure it, people can’t really drag me around very easily and say, “Dotti…Tell folks what you say about ‘NO.’
I don’t reinvent the wheel. I look for wheels to upgrade my vehicle. I found it with a dynamic, three-minute video called “Go for No!” It is the ultimate strategy for failing your way to success! Yes is the destination, while “Go for NO” is the fuel for my vehicle.
This little video allows me to pursue my commitment to and passion for the United First Financial Money Merge Account system, setting people free from their debt prison. So…I have continued my long-life strategy and incorporated Andrea’s short video, leading me to ask everyone I see “Is your home paid for?” If they say “no” I know I can help them! How great is it to have a solution for 97% of Americans? It is the only financial gps they will ever need!
If they say “no” after their complimentary, no obligation analysis qualifies them, I say “next.” I keep “Go for NO” as my daily mantra, knowing there are people in America and Canada today who are looking for a solution to their debt situation. They want to be debt-free, so that they be be financially free, creating flexibility and options for their lives. UFirst and the MMA provides that financial freedom even if people have only debt through credit cards, school loans, etc. and don’t have a mortgage.
I twittered and put it on facebook when I first discovered this powerful video. Then, I get this facebook note from Andrea, saying “Who are you? Thanks for promoting my video. Do you have my book?” I replied, “No…didn’t know you have one…just had a link to your video!” Anyway, she said, “Well, give me your address…I am mailing you one!” She did, and two days later I received a signed copy of her book.
Andrea recently called me and asked, “Will you do a 2 minute video for me for our documentary?” I said, “Sure…would love to do that for you.”

Here’s an example of how cool it can be to connect with people, simply by passing along something of value when you identify it. This is how the story began. Cathy Buchanan, a friend of mine in my primary business, sent me a link to this fabulous this 3 minute video called “Go for NO!” Well, I was thrilled with it. I immediately sent it out to my team. I tell people that I get up everything morning hoping to hear “No.” They look at me like I am crazy (which is sometimes true), with a quizzical look on their face. I then explain that if I am willing to hear “No,” I am assured of hearing “YES!” It’s sort of like committing to having authenticity in your relationships, whether business or personal. If I am willing to commit to being transparent and truth telling and sometimes uncomfortable and painful moments because of it, I am assured of having aha moments and genuine authentic connection and intimacy and love in my life. Back to “Go to NO!” Andrea’s short video, however, is 10 times more powerful than me simply sharing that “tidbit of wisdom.” It all goes back to what I say about marketing. People are not duplicable. SYSTEMS are! So, people can’t drag me around with them on a daily basis, saying, “Dotti…tell my friend what you say about getting up every day hoping you hear ‘No.’ ” On the other hand, anyone can watch this 3 minute video every single day. Why not try this. Commit to a 30 day program of watching “Go for NO!” See what happens. Anyway, to continue…I Twittered about “Go for NO!” and talked about it on Facebook…I wrote a blog about the most inspiring videos on the internet, and chose “Go for NO!” as the best 3 minute one. I also contacted Andrea Waltz, who developed the program, and told her how much I like it, tshared hat I had twittered about it, and that I had blogged about it. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? She wrote me back and offered to send me a free signed copy of her boook (which I did not yet have because I had just discovered the video and was excitedly getting out the word about it). I then wrote back and gave her my address, accepting her kind outreach. You know, great gestures like that make a big difference. I then made sure I connected up with Andrea in every way I could in order to stay abreast of any new info she puts out, and right there on Facebook, she wrote on my wall…”Hi Dotti! Glad to get to know you! Your signed copy of “Go for No!” is on the way today…” One last funny part…for years, I have been telling people that I failed my way to success in business, running into obstacles, crawling over obstacles, and removing obstacles until I found the success I sought. I wanted to take my current primary business to a new level. That began my journey of learning & discovering (meaning eating, sleeping and breathing) what I have coined as Age of Influence Marketing ™. I guess my bottom line is now that I have discovered you, Andrea, we’re connected and friends for life! I would apologize for “plagarizing” what I see in all of your writing about “fail your way to success,” but I promise I had not come across your work until now and have been saying it for my 30 year journey of failing my way to success.
One example of failing my way to success…
One year after my business was named ASI (Advertising Specialities Institute) Small Business of the Year in the United States in 1995, I started another business, only to have two business partners embezzle everything, sending me back to ground zero. I picked myself back up, determined not to be a victim. I decided instead to use it as a learning experience, telling people that I would have gladly paid a quarter million dollars for the lessons I learned and the insights I gained about myself, but I would have rather had it been my choice to spend the money. I committed to social justice work on behalf of obtaining equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons…started on my doctorate work to become a clinical sexologist…and later embarked on a year-long journey across America in 2005/06. None of this would probably have happened if everything had “gone the way I planned.” It fit right into my philosophy that matches what Helen Keller said, “Life is a Daring Adventure or Nothing at All.” And, I certainly would probably not be involved in coaching and teaching people about internet and social media marketing had my real estate holdings not been impacted by renters not paying. But I LOVE THE LIFE I HAVE!
Our friend, Peggy Campolo, wrote Roby yesterday and said I was just like her husband, Tony…a racehorse! I consider that comparison to Tony to be the highest compliement! At 55, some people start believing the saying about “the old gray mare, she ain’t what she used to be.” Are you kidding me? As long as I am connecting with people, living my truth, living as the gift that I am, and being present to my moments, I will continue to live, love and laugh my way through life. I will dance on the edge before leaping into the air into a swan dive, trusting that the best will happen and that a safety net will be available whenever I need it. I believe that I am in front of a powerful tsunami. Unfortunately, a literal tsunami has made us forget that the word doesn’t necessarily have to represent something bad. It’s all about positioning. If I position myself right, I can be in front of this powerful online,/internet/social marketing/social media tsunami and allow it to propel me forward. I can simultaneously fail my way to success, while daring to ride the wave to success.
I enjoy people who are willing to take risks, for I know that person has an energy that offers an exchange in relationship that allows us to empower one another. Andrea doesn’t know it yet, but she’s being added to my Life Team, people whose energy I want to engage. Stay tuned for that blog soon on my Life Team Top 10! I just put this “terminology” into my life playbook as I read one of my most recent favorite books, The One Decision, by Judith Wright. Now, Judith, listen up…you are on my Life Team Top 10 too! Roby recently wrote her, sharing how we are reading the book together, with Roby reading it out loud to me as we sit in the hot tub or in the sun room each morning, enjoying our cup of coffee. We often do this because Roby is a kinisthetic learner and either has to read the book out door to have its meaning “stick” with her or listen to it on MP3 (which we also do through Audible). We were so enjoying the book, which I picked up in a little bookstore in San Francisco. Ok, I know it seems like I am going off track here, but the threads are meaningful to me! I was there at the Institute, where I am finishing my doctorate in Human Sexuality. After class, I decided to go watch where they were filming Milk. Old cars lined the street and I looked across and saw Sean Penn standing in front of Harvey Milk’s old photography store which they had restored to its original look. Who knew at that time that Sean would go on to win the Oscar for Best Actor? Check out his acceptance speech. Obviously, I love it because he embraces and understands my desire for marriage equality. You might be asking how I got from Andrea’s “Go for NO!” to the movie, Milk and Sean Penn. Think about it. Harvey Milk was the quintessential walking billboard for “Go for NO!” Nothing stopped his quest for creating equality for ALL (not just the GLBT community)…not even putting his life at risk. In fact, if Harvey were alive, Andrea would probably have him signed as one of her spoke persons!
Ok, back to my time in San Francisco. I then walked in a bookstore that caught my eye (I never walk past one that doesn’t). It was directly across the street from Harvey’s old photography store. As I browsed, I saw Judith’s book, The ONE Decision. The title immediately resonated with me on a DNA level and I picked it up, read the back cover, flipped through the pages, and bought it immediately. I then got “consumed” with school, real estate investing, and “life stuff” with it sitting on my bookshelf until Roby picked it up recently. She began reading it, and then we were suddenly reading it together. The time had come for this book to BE in my life. Although I am normally the one who likes to use yellow highlighter pen and make notes in my books, Roby felt a desire to do that with this book, recognizing it is going to be a “Life Bible” for us. Roby contacted the Wright Leadership Institute, placed our order and discovered that we would also receive two complimentary guest invitations to one of Judith’s week-end trainings. Roby then wrote an email to Judith, sharing how impactful the book is being for her, although just halfway completed at the time, and how much we were enjoying it together. We received the kindest personal note back from Judith, saying how touched she was by Roby’s email. And…when the book arrived, there were FOUR, not two, complimentary invitations, allowing us to invite our dear friends Kimberly & Kelli to join us!
I told Roby, “Well, Judith doesn’t know it yet, but I don’t just want to read her book. I want her as a personal friend!” Same way I feel about Anderea. Am I saying that we are all going to become personal friends? Not necessarily, but maybe so. I leave it open to the possibility the universe brings as we attract people into our lives. What I am saying is that these are the types of individuals with whom I want to surround myself. Folks, if you don’t shoot the ball above the rim, you will never score! (my background from being Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Kentucky causes me to often use basketball analogies!). I already realize that Judith is a “Go for NO!” person and Andrea is a “ONE Decision” person. Me? I’m also both, so hear me out, Andrea and Judith, I am recruiting you for MY LIFE TEAM!
